Okay I’m getting this over with quickly and as painlessly as possible.
Today I turned 30. That means 30 years ago the glory of the 80′s was really just getting underway. Three decades old. Gasp!
I’ll stop being so dramatic. I’ve had a pretty awesome life so far. I have a great husband, a bastardly cat, and foolishly happy dog. My close family is a great support system to me and a source of encouragement and ideas.
To be honest, 30 isn’t so bad. 30 is the new 20. Actually, I’d prefer to be 30 over 20 now that I think about it.
There’s been a lot happening in our lives the past couple of years, and it doesn’t seem to want to slow down. I don’t know if I like that very much but I am learning to embrace it. As this year progresses I know that it’ll probably get even busier as I continue to work towards opening my own business and as we continue to do improvements on our home.
So what with today being such a landmark occasion I’m about to make a few adjustments to my life for my own peace of mind and overall happiness.
I’m going to eat more whole foods. I am going to reduce the amount of convenience foods I eat (which to be honest, isn’t much) and I’m going to cook more creatively. I am going to reduce my sugar intake dramatically – including those pesky sugars that are hidden. I intend to reduce any dairy or meat currently in my diet drastically. In fact, I’ve decided that as of today I am now going to commit to a fully vegan diet once again.
In addition to what I consume, I am also on a saving kick. Recycling, saving money, reusing … all of it.
Oh and don’t let me forget to throw some exercise goals in there too, for good measure.
I also am working on feeling happier with who I am overall. I read this amazing blog post by Jen Taylor aka Little Miss Mocha a few weeks back and it still resonates with me. When I catch myself thinking negatively about myself, it helps remind me that we are all beautiful. Read that post. It will move you too.
Also, I’ve been reading some great blogs with whole foods – gluten-free and usually vegan too – and I’m inspired to enjoy those foods in our home.
Here are some food blogs that have helped refocus my eating habits and get me excited about whole, clean, healthful eating and living all over again:
There are so many others that I’ll keep sharing later. I can’t wait to try the recipes from these three sites.
Side note: I share a birth day (though not a birth year) with Lindsay Lohan. I guess if we’re into comparing, I think I’m doing better off overall. Sorry LiLo.
I feel refreshed, relaxed, and rejuvenated … like this on the inside:
