And we’re back …

Levi and I took a quick holiday over to Winnipeg to visit some family. We had a great time and enjoyed some much needed relaxation.

We all got sick with some sort of a cold to varying degrees but since we were just lazing about it didn’t really matter to us much.

One of the highlights of our trip to Winnipeg (aside from spending time with our wonderful family) was to spend some time cooking some special dishes with my sister-in-law who is a formally trained chef. We had so much fun in my mom’s cozy kitchen whipping up all kinds of delectable delights.

Some of those recipes I may post here, others we are saving for a special project we are working on together – so you’ll just have to be patient. :)

Another highlight was visiting Canada’s first all-Vegan burger cafe Boon Burger. They also have quite a large selection that is gluten-free. It was basically amazing. We went back for a second round a few days later – it was that good. If you are in Winnipeg – even just passing through – go to Boon Burger on Sherbrooke and try it. I highly recommend the Bombay Talkie Burger. Their daily vegan soft serve selections are delightful. We had Pumpkin Spice when we were there. Heck yes!

Oh and the sesame potato fries. Oven baked fries coated lightly with sesame seeds. So, so, so tasty.

Check out their menu.

I took pictures of all my food with my phone so they didn’t turn out super great. But here is one for what it’s worth.

This is a Bombay Talkie Burger on a gluten-free bun. It’s made with a chickpea patty that is amazing. It has a bit of a curry spice to it. There’s an amazing faux bacon that’s homemade from smoky tofu and beautiful wondrous Daiya Cheese slices. I am pretty sure there’s a sauce on there that I can’t remember other than it was delish.

The next time I went I tried the Buddha Burger which was also using the chickpea patty. It was also amazing but my favorite of the two is definitely the Bombay Talkie.

I want a Boon Burger in Saskatoon so badly it hurts.

I am so amazed that that burger is gluten free and vegan. I am officially drooling and jealous!

I know what you mean! When they plopped that burger down in front of me on a rustic wooden plate I was thinking … pinch me, this can’t be for real.

I often joke about how much I can’t stand Winnipeg (despite having my favorite family living there) but now I am going to have to give Winnipeg a few more bonus points I think.
