It’s My First Ever Blog Giveaway!

**This contest is now over! Thanks to everyone for the overwhelming response. A winner will be announced shortly!**

Is it seriously June already?! Wow, where did these past two months go? I was planning on doing this giveaway in April! Anyway, better late than never, right?

When I started this blog back in 2009 it was for purely selfish reasons. I was leaving the country and all my cookbooks behind to live abroad for an indefinite amount of time. I needed a smart place to store some of my recipes. That’s all this blog was for the first year of it’s life.

When I returned to Canada and “normal” life I decided to start posting more regularly because cooking and writing are both things I am incredibly passionate about.

I had no idea that this little blog would grow to what it is now. I remember the first time I ever got a real (non-spam) comment. I felt so proud. And, I’ll be totally honest, even when I get comments now I still feel so proud and excited. It’s all of you readers and fans and supporters who give me a reason to keep coming up with recipes and post them on this blog. It’s because of you that I want to learn how to take better photos of my food. (Yes, I promise I’m trying to improve!) It’s because of you that I sometimes obsess about my blog. You guys make me truly happy!

Now it’s time to say thanks for all the support and interaction by giving something away.

Yay fun!!

What am I giving away? A copy of Susan O’Brien’s newest book Gluten Free Vegan Comfort Food.

(Disclosure: This prize is being graciously provided by the publishers of the book – DaCapo Publishing. I was also given a personal copy to review and I really liked the variety of recipes. Check out my full review here.)

Gluten Free Vegan Comfort Food

Here’s how you can enter to win.

Subscribe to my brand-new fun newsletter here.

  • This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.

Why am I starting a newsletter? I like to write, mostly. But also, I have some fun things to share that don’t always make it on the website. I’m not going to be including actual recipes in the newsletter – although there will be links to recipes for sure – but you’ll find so much great stuff. I’ll share some of my chats with other food bloggers, business owners who care about the gluten-free vegan lifestyle, and heart-to-hearts with my cat.

You should subscribe because not only will you have fun reading more from me (riiiight?) but also I intend on sharing some exclusives in the newsletter that only my subscribers will have access to. I’m still dreaming up all the fun possibilities.

It’s so easy. You sign up once and that’s it. You can unsubscribe at any time. (Pfft, as if you’d ever want to do that!) And I pinky-swear that I will never, ever, ever, never take your email address and rent it, share it, or sell it to any third parties. Your email address will be kept private. My pinky-swears mean something, in case you didn’t know.

This particular contest is running during the month of June. In order to be eligible to be entered into the draw you need to subscribe to my newsletter before June 30, 2012. You can definitely subscribe after the fact but sadly you’ll miss out on this sweet prize.

Oh and something sort of important I should mention is that newsletter subscribers from all over the world are welcomed and appreciated, however I will only be able to ship the prize within the Continental U.S. and Canada at this time.

Thanks to all you readers who make me happy!

Hahaha, I battled myself on adding a Sylvester The Cat reference when I was writing the post, too! I should have added it. :)

I was wondering if there is a grocery that you shop at regularly? The only place with
variety for gluten free vegan is whole foods and new seasons and they can be spendy
    On a college students budget.:-P

To be honest (as much as I love Whole Foods when I’m near one) we don’t have those stores where I live so we don’t eat stuff from there. We buy a few things from local health food stores but what we really strive to do is eat foods that can be found in the regular grocery store and supermarket. We don’t eat many packaged foods or mixes because they’re pricey. We eat a lot of canned beans, dried beans, quinoa, and mostly fresh fruits and vegetables. That probably doesn’t really help much, does it? I’m not sure where you’re located but here in Saskatoon, SK (Canada) I shop at Superstore, Sobey’s and Co-op if you’re familiar with any of those stores.

Dear M: I wonder if anyone had a similar experience to me that made them go gluten free, (under much protest as glutenous foods used to be my favorites). I got severe acid indigestion in middle life. I would even have violent episodes of upchucking after dinner. At 1st, I believed the common wisdom that it must be spicy foods &/or acid foods like coffee & tomato sauce. After alot of experimentation, I realized that it had to be the spaghetti & gluten-balls that were causing my stomach acidity & worse. I contacted the NIH, alot of gastric health organizations, & celiac groups… none of them seemed to have any idea that gluten could cause such symptoms ! Anyway, thanks for all the recipes. I rode my bicycle thru Saskatoon in ’96 cycling across Canada from Vancouver to Halifax. Stopped at a tiny coop I remember. Great University town. Keep on cookin’.

Thanks for commenting David. I’m glad you were able to get your health sorted out. It sounds like it was really painful and uncomfortable. I just asked Levi if he remembers feeling similarly to what you described and he said yes definitely. He said that he’d feel so gassy and just assume it was because of something spicy or whatever, but really it was the gluten. It seems like gluten is the cause of a lot of nastiness for quite a lot of people. Thankfully for you, and for Levi, going gluten-free has made life much better. :)

I love Saskatoon. Especially in summer. I also love those Co-op grocery stores. Haha, they’ve got such a small-town feel to them, even in the city.

      Cheers!

Awesome! BTW just added your page to my page’s favorite on FB. I just made that caramel sauce and it is so good over vegan ice cream w/ cashew pieces…it is like a salted caramel sundae!

Oh that sounds amazing!! I’m going to have to try it. I’ve got a couple caramel-related recipes that need to get perfected before I post. What’s your FB page? I’ll add yours to mine too. :-)

I just wanted to say that I just discovered your blog and it is wonderful!!! As a newly diagnosed Celiac and vegan of 7 years, I was really sad having to give up my prized seitan recipe, but am glad that I am finally starting to feel better! Keep up the awesome work!!

Aww thanks so much Sarah! I’m glad you’re starting to feel better now that you’ve given up gluten. I confess I don’t think I’ve ever had seitan so maybe I don’t know what I’m missing.

Dear Megan: A pediatric researcher in Boston just told me of a condition called Eosinophilus Esophagitis that is a kind of reaction to certain proteins & involves extremes of acid indigestion & upchucking & trouble swallowing etc….. I just searched it for a minute & found alot of people with almost identical symptoms to mine. anyone in Canada wilth such symptoms can just go consult their doctor…. of course here in the states, we have to self-diagnose & self-treat because there is no affordable health care here !!!

In life winning isn’t everything. However, such parables should be bent in situations where fabulous cookbooks are up for grabs. I must have this book!

Well, they do say the best things in life are free … so that parable works in this situation, right? ;-) Good luck in the draw! ~Megan

1-Each and every play requires creativity from the part of the gamer.

This makes for your shooting experience to be more efficient.
In addition, it uses IPS-matrix, which is much better visibility TN-screen.

The Flight Simulator Online game is essentially an airline simulation game online for flight simulator and virtual airline enthusiasts.
A simulator is a machine, which is created to provide the artificial image of
the real environment. There are some similar ones that
you can find online but for the most part the best ones you will find are
        at a specialty flight school.
