My 5 Seconds of Fame

I debated with myself about posting this. Like, debated for over a week. I’m still not sure if I really want to post it. But I kind of should, right?

I was contacted by Gabby Marchand, a reporter from the local TV station Global Saskatoon, to do a short (and I mean short!) interview about gluten-free living in Saskatoon for their Food For Thought segment on the Morning News. The piece included an interview from a local dietitian Brooke Bulloch from Food to Fit and Nicole Barr who is the owner of a local business – The Griffin Takeaway – which now caters to gluten-free clientele with baked goods and tons of vegan options too. I intend on reviewing The Griffin Takeaway for my upcoming Fabulous Food Finds article for the Saskatoon Celiac Association newsletter, so stay tuned for that in the next little bit.

The clip aired on the Morning Show on June 25th, so I’m a bit behind the times posting it now. It took me a lot to work up the nerve to hit ‘Publish’ on this post so don’t make too much fun okay?

I wish I had seen this yesterday! It didn’t come up in any google searches. Now we know!

It’s a really new business – maybe 9 months old or so. Next time you’re up we’ll have to get treats from there!

I’m working on a page of recommendations on where to eat in Saskatoon for gluten-free and vegan too. I get a lot of emails from people asking where to eat in Saskatoon.

Aww thanks Jesse. Funny you mention the alcohol thing … Levi and I did a short video about gluten-free beer but it got a bit out of control. LOL. We should definitely do a gluten-free beer taste test or something! If you ever want to lend your tastebuds to the cause let me know. ;-)

Thanks for sharing! It is great to get good press about being vegan and gluten free. I’m pretty far away from you (North Carolina, USA), but it is exciting that you can find a bakery that is all GF and has vegan!! :-)

I think you did a great job and I love your blog. I think you have a great attitude, focusing on all the things you can have. That is very inspiring. We struggle in our house to keep a positive attitude throughout all the chaos. I am sensitive to gluten and dairy. My 18 month old is allergic to dairy and soy and may be gluten sensitive as well. We prefer to be vegan (just feel better that way), but it is a struggle sometimes to balance that with other foods we have to avoid. Thank you and I hope you keep posting.

Thank you so much for your kind words Sarah. It can be chaotic sometimes, can’t it? I have decided that balance is an elusive thing. We do the best we can with what we’ve got. I suspect if we had totally “normal” dietary needs there would be something else we’d find to complicate our lives with and disrupt that balance we all desperately seek. Take it one day at a time and somehow it feels less overwhelming. (That’s what works for me anyway!)

Don’t worry, I’ll keep posting for as long as I am able to eat good gluten-free and vegan food! So, hopefully, forever! :P

Hey! I just watched your interview, great job! You didn’t seem nervous at all, were you?

Hey! Thanks! So yes I was totally nervous during the interview. You know me … I like to ramble on and on. They edited a lot of my jibberish out. Hahaha. I just ignored the camera and that helped with the nerves too. :)

I’m not able to view this video, is it still working or is it just me? Thanks!

Hmmm I wonder if maybe the video got removed from Global’s site. I can’t get it to work either. Sorry about that. :(
